The West Palm Beach mayoral race may be headed for a recount.
The city's canvassing board will meet on Friday morning to decide after Commissioner Keith James declared himself the winner Tuesday night in the race over fellow Commissioner Paula Ryan.
James received 50.38 percent of the vote to Ryan's 28.84, but because his tally came in less than a half percent above the 50 percent mark, state law mandates a machine recount. If that happens and James falls below 50 percent, a runoff would be held on March 26.
Both candidates say they want to ensure that every vote is counted. James, in a statement, said he doesn't expect the outcome of the election to change as a result of a recount, but he's prepared for a run-off if needed.
