With spring around the corner, people will be taking vacations, so the Boca Raton Police Department is getting ahead of it by making sure that children are properly secured in vehicles.
"We are actually going to be setting up weekly car seat checks from February 13th and March 13th.Those are free. You can just bring your vehicle, your kid, your car seat and we will evaluate if it's installed correctly. We'll make any changes that need to be made."
Officer Gwynne Friters tells me that seven out of every ten car seats are installed improperly and many children between the ages of seven and eleven are moved to just a seat belt too soon. But that's not all...
"We want to encouarge parents also to insist that their kids ride in the back seat of their car until the child is about 13 years old simply because, until a child enters puberty and until they get tall enough to where their head rises above the dash the air bag, if it deploys, can severely injure children."
The first car seat check will be next Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon and you can make an appointment Here .
The next available dates are:
February 22, 27 and March 4.
