Lake Worth May Soon Become Lake Worth Beach, If Residents Approve

City of Lake Worth

Which do you prefer...Lake Worth or Lake Worth Beach?  If you live in the city, you'll soon have the ability to vote on a potential name change.

City leaders have voted unanimously to add "Beach" to the end of "Lake Worth", but they're leaving it up to voters.

They've agreed to put the name change on the ballot during the countywide municipal elections in March.

Commissioners say it would go a long way in separating the city from the unincorporated areas of Lake Worth where more of the reported crime tends to take place.

The name change is expected to cost about $100,000 up front, including material to market the change to residents.  Plans have already been in the works to change signs around the city, but officials have held off in case the name change goes through.

The City Commission still has to meet this month to write the ballot question.
