Broward School Board To Vote On Two Controversial Items

Two controversial items up for a vote at today's Broward School Board meeting. Board member Torey Alston wants the board to rescind the teacher pay raises approved in February and instead make the raises for all employees using the one-time fund and save the recurring fund for teachers only. But Teachers Union President Anna Fusco, who negotiated the deal, is crying foul. She says the district has enough money to do this. The Board is also being asked to fire General Counsel Marylin Batista over her handling of charter school funding. The Board owes about 80-million retroactively in payments to charters from a 2018 tax referendum.
