Sheriff Says Trooper Shot While Sitting In Patrol Car

FHP Trooper Joseph Bullock

New details released Friday in the shooting death of a Florida Highway Patrolman.

"The murder of Trooper (Joseph) Bullock was an unprovoked, premeditated murder on the side of I-95."

Martin County Sheriff William Snyder released dashcam video and 911 tapes from the incident on February 5th.

Bullock had pulled over a second time that day to help stranded motorist Franklin Reed and called for a tow truck.

Snyder says Reed was upset about the tow bill when he shot the trooper, who was in his patrol car, calling that a possible motive.

He says Reed also went to fire at the tow truck driver, but the gun jammed and he got away just before an off-duty police officer showed up and engaged the suspect.

The sheriff also says that while an off-duty detective from Riviera Beach shot Reed in the chest, the suspect actually fired the self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
