TurtleFest 2018: We Speak With Loggerhead Marinelife Center's CEO

This weekend marks the 15th anniversary of Turtle Fest at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach.

Jack Lighton is the center's President and CEO.

"First and foremost, the event is free and it ultimately was designed years ago to be our thank you to the community for such incredible support of our mission of sea turtle and ocean conservation here in the Palm Beaches.  And what a lot of people don't know is the beaches that our center monitor on an annual basis (9.5 miles from the southern end of Jupiter Island to the northern border of John D. MacArthur Beach State Park) are among the most important sea turtle nesting beaches on our planet."

He says you'll find several live local bands at Loggerhead Park, along with vendors and interactive exhibits.

Saturday's event celebrates the recent kickoff to sea turtle nesting season, which runs through October.

Admission is free and free parking is available at FPL's headquarters with complimentary shuttles going back and forth all day.

TurtleFest runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
