Miami Commissioners Delay Vote On New Voting Map Settlement

Miami Commissioners are deferring the vote on a new map settlement agreement for two weeks. Commissioner Joe Carollo believes the city can appeal a federal judge's ruling tossing the old map out for racial gerrymandering. He thinks the judge's map would lead to too many Hispanics on the dais. The new map will become effective seven days after a settlement is reached. Commissioners currently serving will retain their office through the end of their term regardless of redrawn boundaries.
